| Philosophy:
High school is often perceived as very confusing and demanding of
students. I will make an effort to assist everyone to succeed. Students
must make an effort to be ready and focused on learning. Parents
must make an effort to be communicative and supportive of the student
and the teacher. Class time will consist of lecture, notes, projects,
presentations and other activities. There will be homework assigned
that will emphasize and reinforce current or upcoming topics. Updated
grades will be posted periodically throughout the semester so that
students will know exactly how they are performing in this class.
In addition, parents and students may check their progress online
using Parent Connect, for details, please see the Rio Rancho High
School webpage.
Student
Attendance and Missed Work Policies:
• If a student is absent from class, they have “24 hours
to make up work for each absence… (e.g. students will have
two days to hand in work if he/she missed two days of school)”
according to the RRHS Student Agenda Book 2008-2009 p.29.
• “It is the student’s responsibility to get the
make up work from the teacher.”
• “Students who do not make up work, or do not make
it up within the required time period, will receive 0% for the work
missed.” This grade will be recorded as NTI (not turned in)
and is worth zero points.
• Please note that regular attendance is critical.
Procedures:
1. When the bell rings at the beginning of class students must be
in their assigned seat and ready to learn.
2. If a student uses the computer, they must adhere to the Acceptable
Use Policy in the Student Agenda as well as any additional guidelines
Mrs. Robinson has implemented. Students will receive one warning
at the beginning of this course and if they choose not to follow
the computer guidelines they will have a referral written for each
infraction.
3. This learning environment is everyone’s responsibility
and all students will help the class maintain an ideal environment.
• Students will respect their peers, their instructors and
themselves.
• Students will not use inappropriate language or participate
in any horseplay in the classroom.
4. When the final bell rings at the end of class students will wait
for Mrs. Robinson to dismiss class.
• Students must wait in their assigned seats until dismissed.
Grades:
All grades will be calculated on a point basis (no weighted grades).
• Semester Grades will be calculated on a 40-40-20 system.
40% first quarter + 40% second quarter + 20% final exam
• Grades will be made up of notes, activities, quizzes, tests,
binder checks employability skills, and projects.
• There may be group projects, which will include an evaluation
by individual group members as part of the student’s grade.
Our purpose is not only to prepare students for higher education
but for immediate work within society. It is a partnership between
the school, parent and the student. It is an agreement to provide
the highest quality education in exchange for commitment and hard
work from our students. Your involvement in your son’s/daughter’s
education is very important. Please contact me if you have any questions
or concerns.
